This guide will show you how to restore/recover Acronis backup to New Virtual Machine. Kindly follow the steps:

Acronis rescue environment used in this guide to restore the backup uses a different kernel therefore it might not be able to detect all the memory (RAM) allocated to the server, this will cause the restoration processes for large backups will fail and the server will reboot in the middle of restoration.

If your backup is larger than 10-30GB, please send a request to the support team before trying to restore the backup, so we can adjust the settings on the platform so Acronis rescue can detect all the available memory and you can restore the backup successfully.

  • Login to Cloud Acropolis Client area at https://my.cloudacropolis.com/
  • To recover the entire machine, you need to boot it with Acronis Bootable Media. Go to Services > Select the VM you want to recover the backup to > scroll down to server Information, click on Edit icon.

  • Change the ISO Image to Boot Media. Also, change the boot order, set boot device1 to boot from CD, and boot device 2 to boot from disk.

  • On the same page, in Action section reboot your server then uses noVNC console access your server and complete the steps.

If your server didn't boot to the Acronis bootable media, it means the boot order has not been applied successfully. To apply the change you made in the previous step, Shutdown the server using the "shutdown" button in your client area, wait for it to turn off, then start it again.

  • On most cases when you reach to the below page, the server already got its private IP configuration from our DHCP, however if you don't see your private IP (starting with 172.27.xx.xx) on here then you need to configure the network manually.
  • You need to Configure Network. Please note you should use the server Private IP which starts by 172.27.xxx.xxx. If you don’t know the server IP, please ask our support team.

  • Select Manage this Machin locally.

  • Select Recovery

  • Click on Required

  • Browse for Location

  • Click log in. Use your Acronis account username and password.

  • Select the Backup plan you want to restore. If you enabled encryption when configuring your backup plan before, you should use your Encryption Key to get access to the backup plan then click OK.

  • Select MBRs and other partitions if available.

  • In Recover data, set Recover to Physical machine and allocate the disk to the required partition by click on Required. Then click OK.

  • Please wait until the volumes recovering done…

  • After the recovery done successfully, Change the ISO Image to None and the boot order, set boot device1 to boot from disk, and boot device 2 to boot from CD. Then reboot your machine.

Your server should boot from the operating system from the backup.
